Geraldine Tan is a Director of Amica Law LLC. Her practice focuses on the areas of IP, Data Protection, FinTech and Technology.
She advises on IP and IT issues ranging from their development and acquisition to their licensing, commercialisation and use. She also regularly advises on data protection matters and payment services licensing and regulatory concerns, and also handles general commercial transactions relating to supply, manufacturing and distribution arrangements.
Geraldine graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws degree (Upper Class Division) in 2005, and was called to the Singapore Bar in May 2006.
Experience

Advising the Singapore operator in its cross-border online real-time payment linkage projects between Singapore & Thailand (PromptPay - PayNow), Singapore & India (PayNow-UPI) and Singapore & Malaysia (PayNow - DuitNow).

Advising the Singapore operator in its national payment infrastructure projects, including PayNow, FAST and SGQR Central Repository

Assisting clients in their technology projects, including in the acquisition, deployment and outsourcing of IT solutions and infrastructure

Advising on e-commerce, data protection and confidentiality issues, including drafting e-commerce terms of service and use, privacy policies and internal data protection policies and documents, advising on data protection compliance issues and management of data breach incidents, and conduct of training sessions

Advising an investment company on IP and licensing issues in a major pharmaceutical venture

Acting for a leading agribusiness company in the intellectual property aspects of their joint venture in China with a major US food company, as well as, their joint venture with a major specialty chemicals company

Assisting a leading cocoa confectionary company in the intellectual property aspects of the sale and divestment of their cocoa ingredients business

Advising clients on the licensing and regulatory requirements in relation to their payment service activities, or the operation of their online platforms and/or marketplaces, including their handling of online payments, digital assets and/or digital payment tokens. This includes assisting a payment aggregator in successfully obtaining their Major Payment Institution licence

Advising on the legal issues with respect to the creation and commercialisation of digital assets and non-fungible tokens (NFIs) for the metaverse

Assisting clients in growing their business and brand presence through franchising, licensing and distribution. This includes multi-national companies who are looking to expand within Singapore and local companies looking to expand their operations within and beyond Singapore

Advising local education institutions in their technology transfer and research and collaboration projects

Advising and assisting a leading media organisation in matters relating to their print and online media and publishing business, and internet search business
Memberships & Qualifications
Geraldine is a member of the Licensing Executives Society (Singapore) and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). She was also part of the working group for the Payments Regulatory Evaluation Program (PREP), an initiative spearheaded by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law.
Geraldine also holds a Certified Information Privacy Professional/Asia (CIPP/A) qualification.
