Dr Liza Lam is an Associate Director of Amica Law LLC, and a registered patent attorney in Singapore, with more than 15 years of experience focusing on the patent aspects of intellectual property.

Liza has substantial practical knowledge and skills in patent-related work including drafting of patent applications, preparation of submissions to Office Actions and prosecution of patent applications, locally and in other major jurisdictions, in both the engineering field and the life science field. She has specialised technical knowledge and expertise in multi-disciplinary fields such as electronics, mechanical, communication and computer engineering, material science and polymer science, sensor technology, instrumentation and biophysics/ biochemistry, thereby enabling her to assist and work with individual inventors, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as multinational companies (MNCs) across different industries.

Liza graduated from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) with a B.Eng. (Hons) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and subsequently, a M.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering. Thereafter, she completed her Ph.D. for the design and development of a transcutaneous oxygen sensor for clinical applications at the School of Engineering Sciences at University of Southampton (United Kingdom). After graduation, she worked for several years as a post-doctoral research fellow and a principal investigator at the Mechanical Department of the University of Southampton, designing sensors for the automotive and aerospace industries. Following that, she took up a research position at Osaka University (Japan), developing bioassays for single-molecule detection and analyses of DNAs, and other biomedical microdevices. Leveraging on her 12 years of scientific research experience, Liza started her career in patents upon her return to Singapore. Before joining Amica Law LLC, she worked in the IP department of a Singapore law firm and in the Singapore office of a foreign intellectual property firm. Liza is a registered patent attorney in Singapore. She has also completed a Certified Patent Valuation Analyst course.

Providing opinions on patentability of their inventions and patent filing strategies
Conducting prior art searches and providing patentability opinions based on search results
Drafting of patent specifications, preparation of submissions to Office Actions, and prosecution of patent applications, in Singapore and worldwide
Providing opinions on infringement and validity of patents
Preparing and advising on third party oppositions
Managing their patent portfolios
Handling their design portfolios
